Our Leven Mid hinged Octagonal Column is an old favourite, it is a tried and tested design with over 20 years field experience.
The Leven was designed to allow maintenance of the luminaire in areas where access to the column is restricted or limited. The Leven hinges close to it’s midpoint allowing the luminaire to be serviced at ground level without the need for a cherry picker.
Operation
The hinging operation is a simple “see saw” principle which allows the column shaft and luminaire to be rotated around a patent applied for sliding hinge mechanism positioned approximately midway up the lighting column. This hinging method has the advantage of allowing the column to hinge in almost its own footprint.
There is no need for any expensive springs or hydraulic raising and lowering equipment other than one man equipped with a rope. The special rope is attached to the skirt of the column prior to the lowering operation taking place, the unique, double locking device ensures that accidental lowering of the column cannot take place. Two separate keys are required to open the column and the sliding locking mechanism is designed to ensure that the column cannot be opened even if the lock works loose or is not tightened properly.
Supply
Levens are available in either a hot dip galvanised finish complying with BS EN 1461 but can also be painted to customer specifications, the usual full range of bracket arm options are available and the Leven is available in planted root or flange plated versions.
Design
Leven Mid Hinged Columns are manufactured and designed in accordance with the British Standard BS 5649. In addition these Lighting Columns will also fully comply with the new European Standard EN40, which will shortly replace BS5649.
